“Neptune’s brother” Fleming street gallery Key West February

January 21st, 2010

The show Neptune’s brother is a year in the making for me.  I came to Key West last February for a month long sabbatical, was drawn in by
Key West’s magic, and so began my journey. The paintings in this show are all connected to each other. As one painting was finished it led […]

Transformation

September 6th, 2009

Here is a painting of a malachite butterfly I met at the butterfly museum in Key West last year.  I used Hemetite paint for the dark areas. I threw some salt and sprayed areas as I went along.  All in all I like what happened.

“Robbing banks”

August 19th, 2009

I am in the middle of painting for this Key West show but couldn’t resist doing this painting of my dog Winslow. This is the backyard where I am staying and it just feels like the west.  The background is Daniel Smith indian red over a yellow ochre wash…..very etherial and moody.

“Uneasy feelin”

August 14th, 2009

This is the next piece for the upcoming show.  I always wanted to paint a dolphin (fish).  Their colors are so over the top amazing….they are unreal looking when they come out of the water.  I am exploring a series of piantings using the theme big and small…..this was fun.

Roddy

August 7th, 2009

The Vessel

July 30th, 2009

This is a painting of a Nautilus.  I always have been in awe of these shells…not just the incredible pattern on the outside but the chambers on the inside as well are amazing. This is another piece for the upcoming show. The Q. Burnt Orange and prussian blue go well together I think.

Christmas tree Island

July 27th, 2009

Here is the next piece for my upcoming show in Key West.  It is based on the premise that if Neptune had a brother this would be him. A hard drinkin, rubble rouser of a guy but one that you would really like and want to have a drink with.  Anyway played with the colors […]

Secret places, Sacred spaces

July 21st, 2009

This is a painting of an orchid I saw in Key West last winter.  It was growing off a baynon tree which are amazing trees but even more amazing to see these incredible flowers growing off of them.  This was in a place called the secret garden which houses abandoned parrots throughout the garden.  It […]
