"Bird in hand"

"Bird in hand" -  Watercolor progression.   I live in Key West and try to steer away from Duval Street, but when someone comes to visit I take them down.  While showing a friend around the street has many characters.  This bird was in its owners hands and thought "gotta paint that !"  I love carving out the whites in watercolor.

BELL-BOO PORTRAIT

Bell-Boo portrait -  Always fun painting black labs.  It is when you really need to start seeing instead of what you think you see.  Many different blues and violets in labs. No black paint was used in this watercolor.

“FISH OUTTA WATER”

This show opensThursday, February 2nd from 6-9 at The Studios of Key West on the corner of Eaton and Simonton Street and is a collaboration between writer and painter working together to create a show based on words and vision.  It is a tale that is spun by Garin Wolf based on the paintings of Sean P. Callahan.  Sean had created a painting of a local artist with a live octopus on her head which started the ball rolling.  He called Garin and made the suggestion they work together to create a show that would tell a story visually and with words about a fictional character that lived in Key West and comes back, and there the tale begins.  This is a years worth of collaboration between writer and artist.  We wanted the story to ring true to Key West but also have a surreal quality to it which I think we have achieved.  The show is meant to be seen and read and the best part is that on February 17th we are having a costume party asking locals and visitors alike to create a costume for the final painting which is the “Dealer” in the story.  Whoever comes up with the best costume will be painted by Sean P. Callahan and given the painting at the end of the show.  We both wanted to create an event that let the audience participate and get their creative on.  So come out on the 2nd to see the paintings and read the story, but also get your glue guns out and start creating the best costume for the “Dealer” and be in the story and get a portrait of yourself done.  See you there and lets have some fun !

"SEA PUNK"

Dog Tired Studio and Gallery first opening of the season on Friday December 2nd from 6-9 will also be featuring Vernon Farris, a native of southern CA, showing his latest work "Sea Punk". Vernon began creating art with his first box of crayons at the tender age of four. Fast forward to California State University at Long Beach where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Shortly after graduation, Vernon took a job in the surf wear industry creating countless beach related pieces of art. Today, back to his passion, he imagines and produces a multitude of canvas paintings. The current collection, inspired by the ocean, is named "Sea Punk." Vernon creates an underwater world where robotic sea life swims through a rusty garden of metal objects.
